Tēnā koutou, nĭ hăo, 你好, bonjour, guten Tag, konnichi wa, こんにち は, and buenos días!

I taught in the secondary sector for twenty years, teaching in Auckland, Hamilton, the United Kingdom, and Germany. 

From 2003 I was employed by the University of Waikato as a facilitator in a number of Ministry of Education contracts in Learning Languages, years 1-13 and from 2012-13 in a contract to support the implementation of te Reo Māori in English medium schools, also years 1-13.

Jeanne Gilbert Consultancy was created in 2012 in response to requests from schools for ongoing support for te reo Māori me ōna tikanga in English medium schools.

Since 2012 I have also been a Teaching Fellow at Te Hononga School of Curriculum and Pedagogy, Te Kura Toi Tangata, Faculty of Education, the University of Waikato, lecturing part time in a secondary second languages teaching and  learning paper.

My educational passions are for the sustainability of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga in English medium schools; ngā reo (other languages) in all schools; an empathy and understanding for cultural locatedness;  the pedagogy of second language acquisition; using digital technologies as learning tools and a focus on effective teaching and learning through teaching as inquiry.

I am looking forward to creating an opportunity with you which will allow your school to implement a seamless and sustainable programme for te Reo Māori me ōna Tikanga years 1- 8. Support for other additional languages programmes years 1 -13, can also be co-constructed.

Through the professional learning and development, teachers will be supported to implement interactive, task based teaching and learning and to build confidence and competence in their chosen language and culture.

The most tangible learning outcome will be that students will be able communicate in their chosen language.
